Desert Garden

The Office of James Burnett has designed a nine-acre garden inspired by the Annenbergs’ Post-Impressionist painting collection. More than 50,000 desert plants will create a lush oasis that reflects a 21st-century sensitivity to water usage. Using a limited number of desert plant species, the design juxtaposes areas of different colors, textures and shapes to immerse the visitor in a sensuous outdoor experience. The gardens form a vision of today's desert oasis providing contrast to the cultural landscape of the adjacent estate.

Yellow blooms rise:  Tetraneuris acaulis, Angelita Daisy at the Annenberg Center Garden

Garden Plants

Tetraneuris acaulis, Angelita Daisy
The Center's garden features many prolific blooming plants native to the Sonoran desert and the Angelita daisy, currently in bloom, is no exception. This compact, fast growing perennial provides a splash of color year round in low desert gardens.  The golden yellow daisy-like blossoms perch above the bright green narrow foliage on leafless stems. Angelita daisy should be planted in full sun, receive low amounts of water, and be in well-drained soil. The Center's design utilizes this specimen in masses to welcome visitors at entrances and highlights programmed spaces throughout the garden.
