With technology as an essential tool...
Revolutionizing K-12 Mathematics Teaching and Learning in the U.S.: What will it take?”
By every international measure, mathematics proficiency among American K-12 students is woefully weak, and compared to other nations in an increasingly global society, weakening. Even at the highest levels of proficiency, the United States has among the smallest proportion of 15-year-olds achieving at the top end of international assessments. The stakes for change are tremendous and the need urgent for American students and their families, for our country, and for our collective economic and democratic future. With Harvey Mudd College President Maria Klawe as thought partner, this retreat will be the first in a creative, compelling series that will bring together innovators --leaders from a wide range of backgrounds, including education, technology, science, government, strategy, and from the public, private, and philanthropic sectors--to ascertain what it will take to change the equation for all American students toward mathematics proficiency and excellence. The dramatic rise of technology-enabled education presents a critical lens with which to imagine and consider potential critical paths forward.
